Update keeps repeating
I install a Microsoft update and it shows that the update was successful. The next time I check for updates the same update shows that it need to be installed.
The update is "Security update for Microsoft XML core service pack 2 (KB954430). This is a Vista Home Premium OS.
What is going wrong and how can I correct it?
Thanks
Bill

This is a known glitch in Vista computers. Read this article for some solutions. I would hide the update and not worry about it.

I contacted Microsoft support by e-mail and they provided excellent instructions to correct this problem.

Step 1 : Download Microsoft Windows Installer Cleanup Utility
1 Download the utility( they gave me a link for the download)
2 Save the file to the computer
3 Install this tool on the computer.
Step 2: Remove MSXML software
1 click start ->(all) Programs->Windows installer cleanup
2 See if you can find MSXML software. If so,Remove them(I found Two)
3 Restart the Computer
Step 3: Reinstall MSXML 4.0 Service pack 2
1 Download and install MSXML 4.0 Service pack 2(Microsoft XML Core services.(They provided a link )
2 When the download window appears, click save to desktop and follw the instructions to save.
3 After downloading the MSXML 4.0 service pack 2 setup file and its updates .double click to manually install them.
After the above steps check windows update for the updates and install them.
This appears to have corrected the problem

Hi, I think the problem is that the download is corrupt or is not installing properly and needs to be removed from your pc and downloaded manually from Microsoft.com ... I can not be sure but it worked on my pc which runs on XP proffesional. Hope this helps

I guess rednecks never need to update, but, this is a common problem. Find the update on Microsoft website downloads by searching the KB number and save it to your desktop. Then, find the offending update in Add/Remove programs, if it is there. Remove it. Go to the saved update after closing unnecessary programs and install it. This usually works. If a problem continues, contact microsoft for help.
