I am getting ready to upgrade my Optiplex GX110 from Win 98 to Win 2K, any suggestion/cautions for things that I should be aware of??

1) do a clean install rather than upgrade, much better results.
2) make sure you have all needed Win 2K drivers available BEFORE you make you change.
3) Make sure that any other software you need is compatible with W2K or you get an updated version for W2K.
4) Backup first.

I must not be doing the "clean" install properly, as when I tried it, yes Windows 2000 Professional is now installed - all the programs are gone, but all the old information is still there. It just needs for me to re-install the old programs, that isn't what I wanted. I can also start the computer up in Windows 98 and all of its files and information are there as well. I wanted a totally clean install as in "reformatting" of the hard drive and total elimination of the Windows 98 program and all of its files and information.
How can I install my Windows 2000 Professional upgrade from Windows 98 and completely clean everything off the hard drive - is there a way other than the long and arduous process of simply reformatting the hard drive and re-starting the computer from a floppy boot disk?? And will that work with a Windows 2000 Professional Upgrade CD provided I can even make a Windows 2000 Professional bootable disk ???
