Upgrade to 64x

Question

I was just on the phone with dell hoping to get the 64bit DVD of my OS (vista ultimate) shipped to me for free and they can give me $100 credit for my purchase, but they cant give me the 64x of the vista, with the intent I will phurchase the vista OS elsewere. Someone posted this link on one of the forums: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/compare-editions/64-bit.aspx I wonder if microsoft will send me the 64x version of vista if I give them my product number, but then I have to explain to them why Vista Ultimate didnt come with 64x CD like it was suppose to. :smileytongue: Message Edited by heyman12 on 08-02-2008 02:07 PM

OEM's are not under the Ms upgrade policy. It is up to the individual OEM whether they wish to follow this policy or not.

Current Dell policy is that unless you are a business systems buyer you are not eligible for the 64 bit upgrade. BUT there is a light at the end of the tunnel. There appears to be pretty strong conformation that this policy is about to change. The word is just hold off on buy your own version. I believe this new policy will be announced shortly and the result will be that if there is a 64 bit version of the particular version you got with your system then you will get a free upgrade disk. :smileywink:

I would be ecstatic if Dell changed their policy on this and allowed us to request 64x discs. It would allow me to upgrade my RAM as I sorely wish I could do. :smileyvery-happy:

Do you know when that policy change will occur? I just recieved a laptop I ordered from dell with XP Pro installed. I got the vista disc and it was 32bit business edition. I wanted the 64bit.
