Upgrading to Windows XP

Question

It was suggested that some of the operating problems I've been experiencing would be solved with an upgrade to Windows XP.  Since my Windows 98 based pc is using a Pentium II processor, can it handle an upgrade to Windows XP?  Noted that I am not all that computer literate and I am parroting back what was told to me.  Also, this whole odyssey started with a question about whether or not to purchase a new system, given the configuration of my current system, i.e., Windows 98, Pentium II processor, etc.  Thanks for your input. It would have been helpful had you provided a bit more information about your current system (CPU speed, installed RAM, etc.). The minimum requirements for XP are here. You can also get some information regarding an upgrade here.

Hi All: I'm new to the boards and could use some advice from the regualrs out there. My current configuration is:

Dimemsion XPS T550

Pentium III with 256ram

Plenty of disk space.

Bios is PhoenixBios 4.0 release 6.0 (The Dell board suggests a vew system) but I'd like to upgrade to XP over 98SE

Will a clean upgrade to XP be okay. I've already lived through a Windows 95 to 98 upgrade so I'm prepared for the worst :)

256k ram; Pentium II processor (I don't know the clock speed); 12 gig hard drive with 9 gig available; cable modem; Norton Internet Security running in the background, along with other programs necessary to run Windows 98.
