USB causes Windows freeze when inserting/turning on

Question

I was able to resolve my earlier issue, described at: http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=sw_winxp&message.id=200018. However now whenever I turn on my Canon DR-2580C document scanner, WinXP will completely freeze up. I uninstalled the document scanner, re-installed the drivers (which do not appear in the Device Manager, and it used to), and plugged the document scanner back in. Everytime I turn the power on to the document scanner it freezes WinXP, I turn off the power it still stays frozen and I have to restart it by pressing the button on the CPU. Anyone know why/how this could be, and what other steps I could take to troubleshoot it? Thanks! Message Edited by eppisgood on 08-22-200605:17 AM

Update: My 128MB PNY thumb storage device, as well as my Cingular 8125 also freeze WinXP upon being inserted into the USB ports on the front or the back. However my USB connected HP LaserJet 1320 and my LogiTech USB infrared mouse are both connected via USB without a problem. All USB ports are 2.0. Very odd.
