USB Unknown Device - SOLVED

Question

I have an Inspiron 510m which has been running on a 32 bit Vista RC1 for couple of months. I had no issues until yesterday when my usb port stopped working. I reinstalled the all drivers for all my usb devices and the usb host controllers as suggested in a forum. Now I have the host controllers installed but the usb hubs are not. I powered off and removed my battery to discharge residue current as suggested in another forum. No luck.. Pls help.. Message Edited by abtruce on 01-28-200704:16 PM

Did you try system restore?

That helped restore the drivers for the usb hub.. thank u..

But I have another problem.. two usb devices are not working now... a sony microvault flash drive and a nokia mobile phone mass storage device.. these devices are working on another computer that runs on the same vista version..

When you say these are not working now, do you mean that when you plug them in the USB hub nothing happens? Are you able to work them plugging them in directly into one of the USB ports on the system?

I might have used to the wrong word, my usb ports are the one which had the problem not the usb hub..

Yeah.. I am connecting them directly to my usb ports and the computer detects them,tries to install drivers but fails.

Problem fixed.. When it asks for the driver folder, choose 'root\windows\system32' The system should auotmatically do this but unfortunately it isnt.
