Using laptop for the first time.

Hi.

Received my first laptop today(latitude E5530).
Everything works good. Thanks Dell.
Will keep my fingers cross.

Before turning on the notebook, I attached the battery in the back,
Put the power cord into the adapter and plugged the adapter into the ac outlet.
Everything booted up ok.
Went to the battery information screen(after an hour) and notice the battery count was being change..

Unless I am looking at the info incorrectly.
Over a period of several hours the percentage reduced to 13% before I powered down the laptop.
I had the selector on Express card. Is this stating the battery being discharge?
If so, It appears it was fully charged upon receiving the laptop from Dell.

Since I am using this at home primarily, I want to use the laptop on power ac outlet exclusively for the time being.
I shut down and took the battery out of the laptop and tried to run with the adapter, but it did not power up.

2 Questions:
How can I have the battery remain charged and just use the ac power for my session?

Also (when it’s ready to be recharge) I prefer it to stop at 80%. How can I control the max?

Thanks.
TC.

Hi tomx2,

When you connect the computer to an electrical outlet or install a battery while the computer is connected to an electrical outlet, it checks the battery charge and temperature. If necessary, the AC adapter then charges the battery and maintains the battery charge.

There is no option to disable the battery and to make the system run only on Ac adapter. It will balance the power source between battery and Ac adapter.

To know more about improving the battery life, you can go through this link:

Since the system is not turning on only with the Ac adapter, follow the steps given in the link below to trouble shoot the issue:

thanks,

I found the problem.

The  wall outlet i was plugging my  adapter in was not set-on (Never used this particular outlet before in my house)..

So the battery was actually being activated correctly.

Since I am working at home, I release the  battery from the laptop, and use the power outlet specifically.

Probably in 1 week I will use the battery just to keep it active,

One quick question before i retire this thread,

I hear the fan comes on periodically, Is it timed or does it start-up under certain conditions.

thanks.

Hi Tom,

The fans will function depending on the load on the processor. In case you are working on high graphics program the fan will spin more comparing when you are working on simple applications (for example: word)
