You'll have to setup an AIM account, or they will have to setup an MSN account. I suggest Trillian (http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/) as a nice program for accessing both MSN and AIM, without having to run a zillion clients (also supports MIRC, GoogleIM, ICQ and others).
