Verifying ActiveX programs

I downloaded Windows Installer but when I re-started my PC I got a warning from one of my anti-spyware programmes that said the following: "program has been detected. ActiveX programs are programs that are downloaded from web sites and installed on your computer.

Name: {17492023-C23A-453E-A040-C7C580BBF700}

Advice: Since it is not known if this is spyware you should analyze it before deciding to allow it."

I Googled the number and got hundreds of references to "Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool" Is this what {17492023-C23A-453E-A040-C7C580BBF700}is, or is it more malware/spyware and in future what would be the best way to validate this sort of info???

This site has an extensive list of known activeX controls, both good and bad. Just enter the number in the search area:

It is the valid activeX from Microsoft, that enables their update site to validate your Windows as a legitimate OS. If you don't allow it, you won't be able to get updates from MS.

Many thanks Joe53.
Any ideas on the best way to validate this sort of info in future?
