Video Codecs Needed!!!!!!!!!!

so i just downloaded a concert clip and i was trying to play it but i don't have the proper codec for an .avi file...i'm running windows vista and playing it through windows media player 10
any tips on what codecs to get to be able to play this file???????

also, if anyone has heard or experienced this...i've had problems with high resolution quicktime videos with vista...after upgrading, i found that hi res quicktime vids wouldnt play properly...i'm thinking it's a program installed in my pc that's having the clip freeze and not play properly (at least image wise b/c the sound is flawless)...anyone heard anything like this?

thanks in advance for any help or tips i can get...

Ide like to jump in here if i can... I have a similar problem to this.  I am using ver 11.

Sometimes when i download video, the player will say it needs a codec and then plays the audio but not video.  This is frustrating because i cant find out what codec is required and, they seem to be in short demand for this player.

I wish divx had a vista version available because i use to rely wholeheartedly on the divx downlod.
