It's easier to go Folder Options in Windows Explorer, View Tab, select Show Hidden Files & Folders, OK it. Also UNcheck Hide file extensions while you are there.
There is also a third one. "Hide protected operating system files". If you downloaded IE7, a number of its files are still hidden unless you uncheck this.

am trying out IE7, but I haven't had a need to look for any hidden files. What kind of IE7 files are hidden?
