viewing PowerPoint files

I have MS Office Power Point Viewer 2003 installed on Dell Dimension B110.  I received an email with an attachment named "Einmalige Bilder.n.pps" from a friend who says it is a powerpoint collection of pictures. When I tried to open it I got the error message "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing the action.  Create an association in Folder Options."

File types tab in Folder Options did not list .pps as an extension.  So I clicked 'New' button, typed pps in 'Create New Extension', then selected "Microsoft Power Point Presentation" as the File type from a long list of file types. Then OK and restarted my computer.

But I got the same error message as before when I tried to open the attachment file.

I then saved the file to C:\Documents \ My Documents and I can it in Explore as an 'opened envelope icon' along with other files, but when I use Power Point Viewer 2003 to select the file, it is lot listed in that location.

Any suggestions on how to handle this?

Rename the file *.ppt and it will work fine.
