virus problems fixed and now internet wont work

Hello, I'm having issues with my windows XP.  I talked to a tech person at Microsoft last night about problems with viruses.  I download Microsofts anitvirus program and it restored my machine to it's origanl version.  I went to open the interent on my desktop and it starts to open but then stops.  I tried to open it on the start menu, but the same thing.  Even using the address bar, it wont come up.  The tech had me take off the internet and then restore it, but the same thing is happening.  We tried many different things, like using the safe mode and restoring programs, but nothing seems to work.  The tech person couldn't figure it out.  Does anyone know what I can do to remedy this situation?  Thanks

What is the error you are getting? Have you tried turning off your windows and anti-virus firewalls? You may have to tweak some firewall settings there.

A message flashed up that there is not enough space or access is denied.  I have not tried that, where do I go to do that?  Someone mentioned to download winsockFix.zip.  Have you heard of that download?  Thanks for you help.

Hello again, I ran the program but it still doesnt' work.  On there it said an option was to manually fix it by going to the command screen and typing in some information.  Do I have to do that?  I had a hard time understanding on how to do that.  I'm sorry, I'm not a technology person.  I have a message coming up saying that can't find import DLL.  Is that part of my problem?  Thanks for you help.
