Vista Express Upgrade ship date?

I contacted the Vista Express customer service line today (1-866-634-7426) and asked when the system would be available. I was informed that the express upgrade woul dnot be available for up to six week and that the disks would not  ship for another six weeks and to expect delivery of the express upgrade sometime in mid MAY. I contacted customer service and they had no answers. There was no indication in any adds saying that the upgrades would take so long in shipping. Is the date of mid MAY correct???

I called the phone number given and it was busy and when I finally did connect it took about 15 minutes to talk to someone. The service rep spoke english very poorly and rapidly, so fast in fact I had to tell him to slow down 4 times as his speach was almost not understandable. I was told that the upgrade is not going to be made available to Dell for at least four weeks, and more than likely six weeks and then shipping would not happen from four to six weeks after they recieved the program. The earliest I could expect delivery was mid APRIL and a more likely date would be around mid MAY. What bothers me is that there was no indication anywhere in any of the sales information that would indicate this long of a time lag to recieve the program. Had I known it would take this long I would have waited and ordered the system after today. Again customer service has been no help what so ever in this matter.

Many posts on this subject here.  Bottom line: Forum members are in the dark as to how long it is going to take.  Reports of February to March are indicated by some, but Dell has apparently not given an official definitive statement on this matter.  I cannot imagine May, 2007 is realistic though.

The standard answer right now is 6-8 weeks from today.

If it were mid-May I would be severely disappointed. I'm sure jmwillis will jump down my throat for complaining about something "free," but realistically, I would've waited to buy a new PC with Vista pre-loaded than buying it when I did. Its a shame that they (by they I mean Dell in this case) can't make it available as a download to customers with DVD burners, sorta like the MSDN release. Oh well, we shall wait and see.

This can't be true, can it? How can dell expect us to be ok with a 2.5 month wait for something that is in the stores now? Not cool. I feel duped. I would have waited to buy my new xps 410 had I known that we were going to be second class customers.:smileymad:

I agree, largely because I fail to see what the "express" portion means.

When I first read about the delay - 4 to 8 weeks or even May, I must admit to having felt a little annoyed. But, XP works fine for me and the longer the delay the more patches and new drivers will be available from Microsoft, Dell and others. Look at the Dell Vista upgrades area and you'll see that it is pretty empty right now. Can you imagine the problems that would arise if it were released early ? Not good.

Perhaps rather than being an annoyance it will prove to be a good thing.

I think those that made the decision to buy their computers and wait for the Vista Upgrade did the smart thing. Mainly, because when that Dell becomes inoperable because of all the bugs that are bound to show up, you'll be able to reinstall that working Windows XP Operating System. :)

We got took; plain & simple! Mid May; right!

What was I thinking in buying a Dell with "Express" Upgrade? What a fiasco!

:smileyvery-happy:Don't kid yourself-you payed for the upgrade when you bought the computer. It was just tacked on to the price. Dell didn't "give" all these upgrades away out of the goodenss of its heart!

I agree, i am using XP at the moment and as of yet dont even know if i will be able to purchase the upgrade with Dell as  i dont have a credit card, only a debit card, and am in the UK.

Besides, waiting longer means any issues will be iroined out by then hopefully and after all we are only paying for shipping so cant complain i guess?

Do the math.  S&H was about $15 and do you really think or expect to get Vista for the same price as XP??

Aaron has been apologizing his rear end off.  I'm sure at time he feels like he has been thrown to the wolves.

Yes, we did get it for free. Any purchase of XP MCE (in my case) bought in the UK in the final quarter 2006 auto-included the upgrade. The XP OEM edition with free express upgrade via Microsoft is still available on Amazon for c. £70. So, no complaints from me.

I do agree that Dell are handling this whole matter very poorly however - an apology and a stickie update on an ETA would be the least we should expect.

Since my post the timescale has been added to a stickie as I requested - 4 to 8 weeks wait. Can't argue with that, a perfectly reasonable timescale particularly as they now confirm that the upgrade will come with a full Dell Vista driver disc too - just what I was hoping for in my earlier post in this thread.

I'm perfectly happy with this. I'm on my second Dell and will continue to recommend then to friends (3 have purchased on my recommendation so far) and despite the events of the last week they've come through this with a gold star to my mind, my next pc will definitely be another Dell.
