Hi if anybody at dell reads this, I also can't get vistaupgrade website to accept my service tag number. I purchased my dell e520 on the 13th of december and got no upgrade coupon or anything to direct me to what I have to do to get the free upgrade. On my contract it definately says I should be getting one. After quite a bit of faffing about got to your upgrade website and it says my pc isn't elegible for the upgrade I know it is as this one of the main reasons that I bought the Pc. So if anyone there at dell reads these posts I would very much appreciate if you could just give me a tiny clue what to do next. Thank you in advance.
I ordered mine on 11-29-06 and still am not able to get the upgrade and can get no one to help...........any idea on how long it is taking now to be eligible??
Hi from another canuck. My upgrade was accepted December 15th. I used IE7 browser. However when I check the site for progress on the update I get a "pending" notice. Is this normal as well?
Looks like they updated thier site again yesterday (judging from the fact that it was down). Some of you might want to try your codes again. Mine still gives me the usual error message.
I'm sure you checked to make sure you're entering the right code the 2nd to 10th time you tried, but just a reminder that the site DOES NOT check whether the service tag you entered is valid. It only checks if something was actually entered into the box.
If any of you actually did get it to work, what Internet browser did you use? IE6/7? Firefox?
This is not being driven by Dell, but rather by Microsoft. This upgrade is unprecedented and I am sure everyone will get what's coming to them. You still have almost 5 weeks before you can the product so there is plenty of time.
Oh.. I believe we all know that we have till March to redeem the upgrade coupon but that is not the point being made here.
Point is it is being advertised everywhere on Dell websites that we can begin using the site to upgrade beginning December 15th but the site is not working and neither has Dell come up with any explanation to the delay. They should either change the date or provide an explanation to the problem being experienced. Calling customer support is not much help in this case either.
Dell is frustrating and always has been to deal with. I orderd a Dell XPS710 and paid $6400.00 for it with the statement that I will get a free upgrade to Vista Media Centre Edition. 4 weeks of waiting for my computer because Dell messed up the shipping and yes, I get the exact same error - Your system is not eligable - December 29th and for someone to say Patience - That is just plain asinine.
Dell always ignores Canadians, always has and likely always will. You call their tech support and you will get - Oh yes, Canadian Tag numbers do not show up on the "American" database so I am afraid I cannot help you. Note the: "American" - IT IS NOT Microsoft driven - It is Dell, this has been an issue for 15 years since I have been dealing with them and always will be.
YET ... Us Canucks give Dell one heck of a lot of business. Maybe we should stop and then Dell might eventually get the technical support and merge the two databases. The Vista Upgrade database ONLY reads American TAG number - Canadian ones are irrelevant.
Dell is not only frustrating to the Canadians ---- Americans are just as frustrated..... My XPS 710 Service Tag is getting the same message as your's and talking to Customer Service is just a lesson in double talk and passing the buck..... Dell's C.S. used to be outstanding until they started sending everything over to India..... even on the OFF CHANCE that you get someone who you can understand... they usually don't know how to solve your problem anyway. When I purchased the XPS 710 I specifically asked what the Upgraded XPS service meant - did it mean I would be speaking to someone on this Continent that I could understand? They said yes .... mostly.... we will see...........
Anyone that has the XPS 710 - how do you like it? I just got mine and have not had a chance to "road test" it yet - Also - any suggestions about going with the 32 bit vs the 64 bit upgrade??
JMWILLS - Do you just reply to messages to get your post count up or are you just being ignorant? What ever the case - Everyone knows that the average person will refer to the current versions of XP in relationship to Vista and XP Media Centre will be Vista Home Premium. Don't reply for the sake of a post count - If you do not have anything worthwhile to contribute - DON'T.
