"Replacing invalid secuirty ID with default security ID file for XXXXXXX" it went on scrolling like that for about 15-20 minutes"
Last time that happened to me on an XP installation, I had to clean re-install, something corrupted the security descriptors, probably malware.
See if you have this feature, it is the easiest way to re-install.
