Once you get the firewall(s) conflict resolved, including any firewall you might be running on your router, run network diagnostics. I had mucho problems with Beta 2, but RC1 has been trouble free. Good Luck
i dont think its my router because the internet worked on it before(Laptop-wireless) but it did not work on the desktop(ethernet). i'm not sure what settings to change.
There is a administrators version of IE in the system tools folder that has no add ons. There is a beta Java that works with IE and Vista. The older versions don't work with Vista and IE7. Do you know how to troubleshoot network problems?
Open the device manager and verify that your nic is functioning properly
Go to programs in the control panel and uninstall Java if it's installed
Unplug your router/dsl switch.
Turn off your computer
attach it to the router with data cable with an RJ45
connector- power the router again
restart the computer
disable the wireless connection
use the diagnose network connection function in the network connections folder in the control panel or from the network connection icon in the task tray
Does it say there is a problem with your connection?
well the thing is some pages load. like google loads but yahoo doesn't, and the usps site loads. so some sites are loading others just say web site found waiting for reply and hang there.
did that too. the internet works fine on my windows MCE computer. and even in cmd on the vista computers if i type in ping and a webpage it pings it and returns the packets.
I had a similar problem and struggled for two days before finding the solution. Download Dr. TCP or a similar tweaking utility and lower your MTU. On my E510 I had to set that to 1456 and the TCP Receive Window to 32767.
This may not do it, depending on your router and its settings. In that case, you must also change the router MTU setting to 1456. Generally you can access your router internals through your browser at http://192.168.1.1/ Page through the various arrays of settings until you find one for MTU; this is often shown as an optional ISP setting. If there is a radio button labeled Enabled, click it first. Then enter 1456 and save the configuration. If there was an Enabled radio button, you must now click the alternative (Disabled) and save again; otherwise, the new setting won't stay in effect.
I hope this works for you as well as it has for me!
(BTW, if you use Dr. TCP, be sure to use the 'Run as administrator' option.)
