Using netgear flawlwssly...perhaps its time to look in the mirror.  I was trying to tell you that you seem to be the ONLY oe suffering these problems...wireless adapters run fine with Vista...

As well, netgear drivers are free and easily downloadable for vista...

Did i ask if you had a Dell system?

les,

yes i got a brand new Dell dimension c521-

and as far as the adapters go-

Many atempts with NETGEAR to download drivers from their site were unsuccessful!

PC stores in MY area do not currently have wireless adapters that are compatable with VISTA.

I am just sharing my experience with others here-

Cant wait to install Vista again on my new PC but untill i get an adapter that's compatable- I will have to wait.

you have a wonderful day:)

I received a Dell XPS 210 with Vista yesterday, installed a new Netgear WG111v2 using the new driver available for Vista. After 3 attempts at talking to the "techs" at Netgear, my adaptor can't even get a signal from my router. Your message gives me hope that this will work....any ideas on where to start? I have installed, and uninstalled many times, restarting in between. Something just isn't clicking here. The adaptor has the updated driver, and shows it's running fine. Do I need to do something to the router? I should be getting some kind of signal, as the laptop I am on now next to it is getting an excellent signal. All the wireless equipment is Netgear. Those poor techs are clueless when it comes to working with Vista. Please help! I love the computer, would be great to go online with it! Thanks! Lisa

:smileytongue: HI LISA,

I went around in circles with NETGEAR, felt like i spent 3 days on the phone with them (and Dell)

the final conclusion by both was that the NETGEAR adapter is not compatable with Vista- even AFTER downloading the drivers....

I hope soon they have adapters that are compatable with Vista- until then i took Vista out of my new PC & installed XP for now-
will wait for Vista or Netgear or BOTH to get all ironed out to where they are both on the same page...

as soon as i put my XP into my new pc-
EVERYTHING worked flawlessly.....hope you have better luck than i have with Vista-

I am not so "computer savy" as they say- so i will wait it out & just hold onto my Vista operating cd & install it when things get a little easier........:womansurprised:

Have a gr-8 day!

I got a new XPS1210 or something with Vista loaded. My home netwrok runs on a Netgear router. I haven't had any problem connecting. Actually I use it for work in the field and connect to lots of connections with no problem.

I was having a problem loading AOL, the laptop would crash to a blue screen. After reading the fourms on AOL I fixed the problem. There was a shared system file that needed to renamed. I posted a link on that on this fourm.

Just an update. I managed finally to get the adaptor to work, but not on my wireless router, thru my neighbor. So, my next step will be to upgrade my router, which is probably 6 years old anyway. FYI, I have an older HP digital camera, emailed HP about it as they have very limited updated drivers out, and they said just plug it in...hmm...Vista picked it right up and installed the drivers, no problems! Going to try my printer next. Thanks all! Lisa

I got my inspirion with built in wireless.

I did have to turn on the SSID broadcast on my router.

A buddy of mine had his Vista machine over a few weeks ago, and he couldn't connect.

Saw the same problem with mine.  Even after manually setting up the network - every other device I own works fine w/o having the SSID broadcast, but the Dell/Vista machine wouldn't connect.

Turned on the SSID broadcast... connected no prob.
