Vista/Office 2007/3100CN Printer

The current printer driver for the 3100CN printer causes both Word 2007 and Powerpoint 2007 to fail to load.
If this is the default printer you cannot open either application, if it is not the default printer, both applications crash when you attempt to print.
Desperate for a fix/workaround.......

Okay, I'm confused (nothing new) but are you using Vista or SBS?

Using Vista Business on an XPS connected to a Small Business Server domain running SBS2003

Installed on server as shared printer published in active directory.
It works ok on XP or W2K machines.
It worked OK on the XPS machine until I upgraded to Vista Business from XP Pro. I have tried updating drivers, flashed the printer bios to latest version - still works OK everywhere except Vista/Office 2007 - I have a feeling this is specifically a problem with the Vista/Word 2007/Powerpoint 2007 and 3100CN combination as the printer works OK with Outlook 2007 and all other applications.

Where si the printer?  On the Server or desktop?  If server you will have to get the 2K3 driver.

That's not logical.  If it works in Vista, then it works.  I know yo uhave a problem, but for it to work in some aspects on the same suite and not others.  That's new to me.

Hi

I would also like to know any possible solutions.

I have been using XP before installing Vista with no problems. When I say no problems, I mean I was able to open and print from both word and office 2007 outlook to my dell 3115cn printer.

After installing Vista, if my default printer is dell 3115, word will not open and if I try and print from outlook 2007, it will do the same as word and crash. If i change default printers, all is ok, but I cant print because the 3115 is the only one I have connected.

Any solutions?

Thanks

Glad someone else has this issue.
I have gone as far as re-installing Vista, clean install, and re-installing Office 2007, no other applications.
Same problem - only Word 2007 and Powerpoint 2007.
I don't think this has anything to do with the SBS domain the PC runs on, it appears to be related to the Dell Driver/Vista/Office 2007 combination....

Looks like an update on the Dell driver downloads:

Release Title: Printers: Dell Laser Printer 3000cn, Driver, Windows Vista 32-bit, Multi Language, Printer Workgroup Laser 3000cn, v.Webpack, A04 Release Date: 2/12/2007 Criticality: Recommended Description: This package contains the MS Windows Vista 32bit print drivers for Dell 3000cn.

Hello

Dell helped me find a solution, thanks guys!!!

If you remove everything to do with the dell driver. And then go to the update site for new drivers. Unless they change the page, you need to go into other versions. It is the last driver update on the list that you need to install for 3115. Both word and office 2007 work fine.
