W2k instability-spontaneous restart

Just one question before clean reinstall of W2k on the Dell Inspiron 5000e.
The system behaves rather tiresome. Spontaneous cyclic restarts when starting in the normal mode; while everything is OK in the safe mode. I cannot find the device or service causing it. To make the things worse this is a French version of W2k which I have to use for my job :(. I cannot find there step by step mode of start up.

I found the statement in the system events which "helps" a little on the situation:
Type de l'événement : Informations
Source de l'événement : Save Dump
Description :
L'ordinateur a redémarré à partir d'une vérification d'erreur. La vérification d'erreur était : 0x000000c2 (0x00000007, 0x00000b8a, 0xfef03980, 0xfef03988). Microsoft Windows 2000 [v15.2195] Un vidage a été enregistré dans : C:\WINNT\Minidump\Mini081902-03.dmp.

What kind of "verification error" is it and what help can I get from the unloaded dump?
PS There was no any substantial help from the french division of Dell or MS.
All the hardware seems OK according to the Dell diagnostics software.

Thank you

That looks like a note saying that a minidump file was created because a BSOD occured.

To further troubleshoot it, you need to disable automatic reboot when a BSOD occurs. Then, when a BSOD occurs write down what it says and post back.

A-a-ah, excellent! Thanks a lot!
I forgot about this option of automatic restart on BSOD (never used it on my desktops!. It is really bad option and should never be used IMHO).
At least now I see what happens: the blue screen says -in French :( :
*** STOP: 0x000000c2 (0x00000007, 0x00000b8a, 0xfe336780, 0xfe336788).
Début du vidage de la mémoire physique.
Vidage de la mémoire physique terminé. Contactez votre administrateur systeme ou votre groupe de support technique.

It seems (according to French-physical memory cannot be unloaded) that I have the problemes with harddisk. This is quite unexpected since five different tests for HD passed OK.

Any hints?

The error 0x000000c2 refers to a BAD_POOL_CALLER error.

MSKB says that the fault is incompatible or outdated drivers. Update all drivers on the system and see what happens.

A "Stop 1E" is actually quite different from the "Stop C2" reported by tigor.

There's another line following the "stop" message that looks like this:

*** Address A007135F base at A0000000, DateStamp 3bc32f6b -win32k.sys

What module is listed for your system?

Stop 1E is sometimes associated with video drivers. Will the machine start in VGA mode? Were there any changes made before this problem began happening? What Service Pack is installed?

Thank you for the reply.

I saw this message..

*** Address A007135F base at A0000000, DateStamp 3bc32f6b -win32k.sys

But I can't remember, I see system journal the following error message,

Miscrosoft 2000[v15.1295] Un vidage a été enregistré dans : C:\WINNT\Memory.dmp.

My notebook is VGA mode, I think.

And service pack 1.

I don't know why this problem began. So I installed completely Win2k several times, but this problem, appears irregulary.

Maybe my notebook was hited gently one time against table, does it make memory break?

Thank you for your reply.

That's possible. I'd suggest reseating the memory, just in case it was jarred loose. You should be able to find the service manual for your laptop by clicking on the "Reference" tab at the top of the page. From there, click on "Systems", then select the product family for your laptop. The next display will show a list of the models in that product family. Click on yours, then select the language, and then look at the Service Manual for your model. You should find a section on memory modules. That section will describe the procedure for removing and replacing the modules.

The fact that you're getting two different kinds of bluescreens (Stop 50, Page fault in nonpaged area, and Stop 1E, Kernel mode exception not handled) suggests that faulty memory is a possibility. Memory problems often cause a variety of problems. Here's an article from www.updatexp.com describing many of the XP bluescreen stop codes, including both of the ones you've reported. The article discusses possible causes and troubleshooting techniques.

It's likely that the video settings are something other than VGA, since most laptops are shipped with video systems that are better than VGA. You can find this out by right-clicking on the desktop background, selecting "Properties", and looking under the "Settings" tab.

Yes, I reseated memory. And now all is ok. No problem again. Thank you for your advise.

Thanks for letting us know! As I said, memory problems can produce many different symptoms. That's one way of distinguishing them from problems associated with one program or device.
