Hopefully Nortons SystemWorks 2005 coming out now will address the issue, but I would hold my breath on that one..Will wait until some lucky or unlucky person trys the new Nortons 2005.

Maybe yes, maybe no? When I installed Sp2 on my laptop, Nortons 2003 played heck with it, so I desided to reinstall the XP from scratch and use AVI as my antivirus. But my daughters computer is already on Sp2 and has had no problems with Nortons. Go figure, maybe because my daughters computer isn't a Dell?

Just my little research on this problem.

On NTFS format this reg setting will eat your lunch if it is not set to 0.

First, you have to run regedit. Then go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /
SYSTEM / Current Control Set / Control / File system. Click on File System and
that will get you to a listing of Default, ContigFileAllocSize, and the one
you want: NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation.

Right click on NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation and select modify. Then change
the Hexadecimal value data from 1 to 0. Then hit OK. Then exit the registry
editor.

I don't believe it is a Dell related problem, nor is it between Norton SystemWorks and SP2 alone.  The catalyst (no pun intended) is the X800 XT.  I had SystemWorks 2004 and XP SP2 running for weeks, and then I got an X800 XT.  Since then, I had to uninstall Norton to increase my frame rates in games to the levels expected.  I know that it is a combination of these three things because I got an "internal error" which said I needed to uninstall all Symantec products and I did not get the error until the day I installed my X800 XT.  I then reinstalled and received the same error.  I decided to leave it off until someone finally came up with a fix (whether it be Microsoft, ATI, or Symantec).  Also, I cannot run the installer for Java developement tools, such as Netbeans and jGrasp and I have to choose a setting for jGrasp which turns off direct draw (part of DirectX) so that I can even use jGrasp (I cannot use Netbeans).  It is frustrating to me that there is a conflict between the X800 XT and SP2 that causes problems in other programs (I installed Netbeans after SP2  and it worked great until I got my X800 XT).  I was running a 9600 XT before with no problems in SP2 and everything else.  Once again, the only change is my graphics card.  Hopefully somebody will finally recognize the connections and fix these problems.
