No you can't use fingerprint reader with Vista. I was told March 2 as the release date. Where is this software Dell?

I just emailed wave about a vista upgrade, below is the return email I got. Looks like we should see something for Vista very soon:

ETS Vista is in the final stages of testing at Dell.  We expect it to be
released this week.

When it is released, it will be available for download from
http://support.dell.com/.

Please let me know at support@wavesys.com if you have any further
questions or problems.

Where is this software?
There are many of us out here waiting for this update and cannot use our smartcards?
If it aint ready can we have a beta version till the approved version is ready?

I wouldn't be so sure.  "Vista Capatible" is a loose term devised by Microsoft that means something completely different than what most people think.

Vista Compatible means that certain basic hardware items, such as CD ROMs, processors, memory, keyboards, monitors and the like are compatible.  It doesn't necessarily cover things like finger printer readers and TPMs.  Read the fine print!

Is see it available on Wave's site as of today for a price of $106.  Will Dell offer it no charge in support.dell.com?

March 14th, 2007 22:00

It will be free otherwise they couldn't sold those systems as "vista capable" since that means cmoputer will work with vista.

I remember dell advertising it as vista upgradable. I'm positive we will get it for free.

Otherwise this could easily go to suite.

Dell's not gonna say all the fingerpirnt readers and TPM enabled computer I bought is now obsolete.

The Vista qualified Wave Embassy Security Suite was released yesterday.
When I phoned Dell Customer Support they said it was not out which conflicts with the Wave web site.

All I can say is that the Dell upgrade disc had an empty folder where the Wave upgrade was supposed to be.  I expect that Dell will post a downloadable iso image as soon as they get their act together.

The D620's were sold with the understanding that all of the hardware would work with the Vista upgrade.  If Dell does not offer a free Wave upgrade, many site managers I know said they will consider migrating to Smart Cards for the D620's recently purchased and other vendors for future hardware purchases.

IMO it is just a matter of a few days before we'll be able to get the Wave upgrade.

If you try to configure a D620 at www.dell.com with both Vista and the fingerprint reader, it does not let you- it says the fingerprint reader is incompatible.

This means they are aware it, and they are more than likely working on it, it's just a matter of testing and licensing the $100 Wave software into something free for the rest of us.

I know it isn't configurable with vista. I just need my software. Where is it. I was told March 2nd
