Web Mail

I work at home and access my company e mail thru Internet Explorer. Once I arrive at the home site I click on web mail-enter passwords - and proceed.  Last week my company upgraded their server.  Now I can get to their site and see my e mails but I cannot open them nor reply to them.  My computer is less than 2 months old.  It is an 8200 with XP-Professional on it.  We have an older computer - same model with ME on it - from that machine I can open and reply.   On the new one I get a message in the lower left corner that says Error on page.

If I were you I would consult with my network administrator.  It sounds as if you need to modify some of your settings on your machine to conform to the new server.

I have talked with them and they cannot determine the problem.  Because we have different versions of Outlook Express they are concentrating on that theory.  The error reports read Line 19 Char 31 - Can't execute code from a freed script - Code 0.  This message is also coming up on the home page when I log in.

You are saying that you are using web mail, but it doesn't sounds like it. If you are using Outlook or Outlook Express, you will be connecting directly to your company's Exchange server and you will be retreiving your mails through POP3 or IMAP and sending them via SMTP.

This may sound a little bit technical, but you need to know some of your company's server details to be able to work correctly with your email.

The best thing to do, to try to troubleshoot this, is to make sure that Outlook Express works, as it is really simple to set up and you will know if it is a problem with you, or your company, after completing these steps:

  1. Open Outlook Express
  2. Click on the 'Tools' menu and select 'Accounts..'
  3. Click 'Add' -> 'Mail..' and fill in the settings (this is where you need to know the exact server address for your company's server and you also need to know if it is an IMAP server or a POP3 server
  4. You have now created a new account. Click okay and click send and receive messages

If Outlook Express works (which it should do, unless the server guys at your company has really made some horrible mistakes when setting the new server up), you now have a working email client and you can return to your help desk and ask them to troubleshoot Outlook for you.

If Outlook Express doesn't work, then the server guys needs to check their settings - escalate this to your helpdesk and make sure that you tell them that you tried the above.

Oops... Sorry, I was answering another thread.

Check if you can access your company's mail from another PC. If you can do that, it is a problem with your Internet Explore (IE) settings. Make sure that IE is set up to support Java, JavaScript, ASP, and that your security settings are too restrive. Check this from the tabs in IE -> 'Tools' -> Internet Options

It is very likely that the upgrade has caused the web mail client to require more from your browser and that some of the restrictions you already have in place are causing it not to work proberbly. Your helpdesk should know exactly what is needed.

Good luck!
