Webcam Central for windows8

I recently upgraded my new XPS 13 (L321X) to windows 8. Webcam central stopped working, It is getting detected in device manager.  I tried installing the drivers again from dell site without any result. Whenever I open webcam it says  close the other streaming video application to start video though I don't see any other video application going on in my system. I have been trying to resolve this from past 24hrs. Any quick help is highly appreciated.

Hi BS8485,

Before upgrading to Windows 8, if the BIOS was not flashed to the latest version, do the same by clicking on the link below:

http://dell.to/12AtfL7.

Please connect the ac adapter as this step needs uninterrupted power supplyDo not use the system till it restarts and comes up to the desktop.

Next uninstall the Webcam Central software from the Device Manager and also from ‘Programs and Features’ and reinstall it once again by logging into your account in ‘My Dell downloads’. Click on the link below for instruction to go to ‘My Dell downloads’

 Please revert for further assistance.

Hi BS8485,

I recommend you to uninstall the camera from the ‘Windows Store Apps’. Right click on the Camera. This will open the app bar with commands for ‘Unpin from Start’ and ‘Uninstall’. Select ‘Uninstall’ to completely remove the app and its settings from the system. Please uninstall the software once again by using the link below:

http://www.revouninstaller.com/

Please download the program and select ‘Webcam Central’ software and uninstall it. In case it prompts you to delete any registry, kindly do so.

Next I suggest you to download the software once again from ‘My Dell Downloads’ and check.

Sujatha,

I tried this way bit still the issue persists. Sometime when I uninstall the drivers and restart the system webcam is working.

Sometimes not..I think some hidden software is using the cam and when I start Skype/webcam central/Silverlight it's notifying the same.

Hi BS8485,

I would like to know if you did an upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8 or if you did a clean installation of Windows 8 Operating system.

Hi BS8485,

I recommend you to ‘Reset’ your system which will give a completely fresh start to the system with no previous files or configuration retained.

The Reset steps are given below:

Press Windows key + C to open charms bar and click on PC settings.

Click on ‘Get started’ under ‘Remove Everything and Reinstall Windows and start over.

Click on Next button at the Reset your PC and start over step of the wizard.

Next click ‘Reset’ button at the ‘Ready to Reset your PC’ screen.

At this point the system will restart into a full-screen progress screen and follow the onscreen instruction by entering the product key and accepting the terms of the license.

Once you are past the license screen, Windows welcome screen will load and the system has returned to the original windows 8 state.

Check if the Webcam central works after Windows 8 reset. If this does not resolve the issue, the next option is to clean install the Operating system.

whenever I'm disabling the integrated webcam from device manager and enabling after restarting the system webcam is working. But everytime I have to follow the same process, it's not working without diabling & enabling from device manager. I couldn't find dell webcam central driver in device manager everytime it's taking default integrated webcam drivers.

Hi BS8485,

Reset will give a fresh start to your computer with no previous files or configuration retained. In case you have any data, I request you to back up all the data and perform this step.

Before trying to ‘Reset’ your system, you may also try to refresh your system. This is a method of returning your system to a good state while preserving your files and great deal of your configuration. With the Refresh your PC option, user accounts, data files, and some settings are preserved on your PC without the need to create a backup, or make choices about what to keep or remove.

Find Steps to ‘Refresh a Windows 8 PC’

  • Open the General section of PC Settings. (WIN KEY + C to open charms bar and click on PC Settings)
  • Click the Get started button under Refresh your PC without affecting your files.
  • Click the Next button at the Refresh your PC step of the wizard.
  • You may be prompted to insert installation or recovery media if there is not a recovery image preconfigured on your PC.
  • Click the Refresh button at the Ready to refresh your PC step.
  • At this point, the PC is restarted, and the refresh actions are completed

NOTE: There is no further action needed by you until login when the Windows lock screen appears.

In case the issue persists even after ‘Refresh’, please back up all the data and Reset your computer. With this step you will lose all the data and application you had on your computer.

There are no separate drivers for Webcam, it will use native driver available with Windows 8.

No it didn't worked, I'm just wondering what else I could do to fix this. Every time I have to uninstall the drivers in device manager and restart the system to make the cam work. Any solution you think of?

So did the refresh work?  I had similar problems with the webcam and Skype on windows 8 before I reverted to windows 7.  Had a BSOD on launching of webcam in that program. Very annoying!

I'm back in windows 7 thinking of trying Windows 8 again.  Saw this and thinking of trying if it's then when I upgrade again.  en.community.dell.com/.../4251.diagnosing-integrated-webcam-driver-issues-when-upgrading-from-windows-7-to-8.aspx

This is not an unusual issue but Microsoft and/or Dell seem to not particularly care.

Also could try clean install, but it's a pain to reinstall programs.  I keep an image of my windows 7 to fall back to if necessary.
