What is a compressed zip file and why can't I open it?

A client has sent me thier back up disk in Floppy and CD form. I can't seem to retrieve any information.

Re: Quickbooks 2003 Premier Edition Accountants the client has Quickbooks Pro 2003 - is this why I can't restore their back up file to my computer.

I am opening the program and the client and going in to file than restore. Or do I just open Quickbooks and insert the floppy or CD and it will copy over my old information and update my file on them?

I am lost and confused and have spent about 40 hours or so and still can't figure this out the client does no know what there backup location was - don't I need to know that?

HELP!!!!!

Sassey21,

If the file was made with Microsoft Backup and was made on a computer running an operating system other than Windows XP you will not be able to open it. The version of MS Backup in Windows 9X is not compatible with that in XP. If it is simply a compressed file (with the extension .zip) you can double-click it and expand its contents to your hard disk, then open it with Quickbooks.

If it is a .zip file you will need winzip ( www.winzip.com) or simular progam to unzip it.
