When Is "Enough, enough?"

This entire Express Upgrade fiasco has got me wondering when those of us who have not received their promised Express Upgrades yet (even after registering THE VERY FIRST DAY - NOVEMBER 29, 2006!) say, "enough is enough!!??" Dell promises delivery by a certain date then, "oh well" and just delays to another date (see below). No apologies; no explanations; not even any excuses. At what point do their customers say that they have breached the contract under which the machines were sold? I paid good money for a computer that was supposed to be upgradable to Windows Vista and all I get from Dell is silence and no upgrade.

What do you think? When is "enough, enough?"

Thank you for your interest in the Dell Express Upgrade Program for Microsoft Windows Vista.

The Microsoft Windows Vista Software Kits orders are shipping in the order that they were received, and we expect to ship all of the pre-ordered Vista Upgrade units world wide by April 15, 2007.

An email will also be sent including the carrier tracking number once your Express Upgrade to Windows Vista™ has been shipped.

Sincerely,

The Dell Express Upgrade Team

You're probably right about that. However, a "reasonable" person (or jury) would probably say that four months after Vista was released when the original "promise" was 6 - 8 weeks after it went commercial (1-30-07; the original commercially available date) is getting to be a "bit" much.

It seems crazy to me that it will probably end up being this long for many of us who "bought into" this scam last fall. Another instance of "buyer beware!"

Don't be too anxious to get your version of Vista.  I installed mine, it took hours and now my system is so slow and full of troubles that I am seriously thinking of getting rid of it all together.  This was not a good thing for me.  I have a new computer and everything was supposed to be compatible with Vista but all I have done is run into one problem after another.  What a rip off!  By the way, you will have to pay for the Shipping and Handling also.

Lisa,

After reading all of the horror stories on this board, I will probably wait until SP-1 before I install it. The way Dell is stalling, that's about when I'll receive the disks anyway.

The real issue for me is that Dell has NOT fulfilled their end of what they promised when selling me the computer. Many (most?) others have long ago received their disks and many (most?) registered after I did (11-29-06). This is wrong on many counts but basically it's false advertising as the upgrades were promised 6 - 8 weeks after Vista was to be made commercially available (1-30-07) and they have delayed the disks for many of us to the END OF MAY!!!!?????? One wonders how much longer this will continue and how much longer those of us who have received NOTHING should wait before pursuing other avenues (BBB, legal action, etc.).

All I've read about is problems with the XPS 710 and E 521; I have the XPS 410 with a RAID 1 array (Dell Datasafe) and Dell has not included this machine as causing the delay (in their blogs) and they insist (indirectly) that it's NOT white listed. I can get nothing official from them regarding the delay, however.

Thanks for your input,

Mike

After reading all the horror stories about Dell upgrades and Vista, I feel like a loner swimming upstream against a tidal wave, being chased by sharks. I actually like Vista.:smileyhappy:

On my Dimension, it performs well and is much prettier.

That being said, I did have some problems....

1) It took almost 2 months for HP to produce a driver for my printer.

2) I did have to upgrade Norton to the 2007 version - something I was not planning on doing.

3) And I have to upgrade Adobe to CS3 (Acrobat does not work.) However, I was planning on doing this, regardless.

I must admit that I did not go through the Dell upgrade process (since my PC was purchased over a year ago.) I bought a standard Microsoft Vista Ultimate upgrade CD.

I bought my inspiron e1505 back in october and registered the day the express upgrade was available. it is now the end of april and i have not heard ONE WORD from dell regarding my order. i am absolutely frustrated and angered at this whole process. what happened to first come, first served?? i thought i would be getting my upgrade sometime in february; it is now nearly 12 weeks since the release of vista and i still have nothing. honestly, i dont see what so difficult about wrapping up 1 of their stupid mass-produced vista upgrade cds and a driver cd and shipping it already!! GRRR. it should have taken them 1 month MAX to get it to everyone. this is ridiculous.
