Where Is Scan Disk?

Recently updated from Windows ME to XP Home  and I'm having a problem finding the Scan Disk Option.  Went to Programs << Accessories << System Tools, but there is no Scan Disk listed.
Can someone tell where to find this option?  Your help would be much appreciated.

Double-click on My Computer. Right click "local disk (C: )" and select Properties. Click Tools tab and click "Check Now" button under Error Checking.

kingstonlm,

Chkdsk replaces Scandisk in XP. For a list of switches that can be used with the chkdsk command enter that command as the searchh term in Help and Support.

Denny

Thank you - that is very helpful.  This is quite different from ME but I'm beginning to find my way.

if you have NTFS (and you likely do), then click start, click run, and type CMD .  From there, typing: chkdsk c: /f /v   will scan your disk, fix any problems, and tell you what it's doing.  You will be prompted to schedule the scan upon your next startup -- hit yes if you want to fix any problems.

Unlike the file system that shipped with winME, NTFS is more robust and handles unexpected shutdowns better, so you shouldn't need to run chkdsk that often.
