Windows Firewall, included with SP2, is a decent firewall. It's better than nothing, basically. The main drawback is that WF doesn't have outbound scanning. People with far more tech knowledge than me have reported that WF can be disabled by a malicious program or virus.
I'm using the free version of ZoneAlarm, which has better protection and is more secure.

It is a good inbound firewall but not outbound protection like Zone Alarm. I had to take ZA off though because of conflicts with SP2. Am hearing good things about Sygate too. I think for most folks it's simply Ford / Chevy choice.......Hope this helps.

Basically, no (and as mentioned SP2 does not have AV protection, just AV program "detection").
Of course, no AV or Firewall is usefull unless it's kept updated!
