Hi alaydyn,
New features and functionality in Windows 8 include a faster startup through UEFI integration and the new "Hybrid Boot" mode (which hibernates the Windows kernel on shutdown to speed up the subsequent boot), a new lock screen with a clock and notifications, and the ability for enterprise users to create live USB versions of Windows (known as Windows To Go). Windows 8 also adds native support for USB 3.0 devices, which allow for faster data transfers and improved power management with compatible devices, along with support for near field communication to facilitate sharing and communication between devices.
Windows 8 is compatible with all the above mentioned software applications.
I have provided a link below which would help you with the compatibility of software applications.
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compatibility/win8/CompatCenter/Home?Language=en-US
In the above link, enter the name of software application which would show you compatibility with windows 8.
So, you can go for Windows 8 64 bit operating system.
Please reply if you have any further questions.

Windows 8 64 bit or Windows 7 64 bit will both run great on that system.
Windows 8 is new whereas Windows 7 has been around for a couple of years.
Thus there is better support for Windows 7 but support for Windows 8 is growing.
If you have to buy an OS then go for Windows 8 as Microsoft are selling it at a promotional price. Please see my wiki A Clean Install of Windows for installation instructions.
