Will My Laptop work with Windows 7?
My laptop is a Dell Inspiron with Intel® Core 2 Duo Processor T5750. It's just over a year old and I would like to upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium. The only thing I"ve done with my computer is upgrade the memory to 4gb.
According to the Microsoft page, I must have:
1. 1 GHz or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
2. DirectX 9 graphics processor with WDDM 1.0 or later driver
My question is, will Win 7 work on my computer? Do I have a 32 bit or a 64 bit computer? And, is my graphic card compatible? It is the standard card that came with the laptop.
Is there anything I need to do before doing an upgrade, that is, if my computer is capable? And, how can I get updated drivers which will most likely be needed.
Thanks in advance
Marylou

Thanks for the fast answer. I will give it a try. Do you know the answer to my other question... is my laptop a 32 bit or is it a 64 bit? And.. either way, do you know what the difference is?

Since it is only a year old I would say yes. Run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to see if you will have any problems.

It is a 64 bit system and can run either 32 or 64. I am going to guess that you currently have a 32bit version of Vista installed. A 32 bit windows can not use more than about 3.5GB of ram. Since you have 4GB I would say go with the 64 bit.

Thanks for the information. You're right, I am running a 32 bit version of Vista... therefore, I assumed I would also have to run a 32 bit version of Win 7. I honestly don't understand the difference - why I would want to run one over the other. Several people on my board have problems running some XP applications on the 64 bit Vista but I don't have any problems on the 32 bit Vista. It kind of makes me wonder if I shouldn't stay with 32 bit?
