Not sure whether you just wanted me to check the link (which works fine), or whether you are bumping your previous post :-).
Assuming the latter, a question: Did you upgrade to XP SP2 from a previously installed version of XP?
If so, see if you have the folder C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles. That would contain the SP2 files that system file checker is looking for.
If you do, then run fixit, but use the instruction given in http://windowsxp.mvps.org/IEFIX.htm Figure 2
to copy files from C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles instead of from your nonSP2 XP CD (type C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles in the box or use the browse to get to that folder).
If you don't have that folder either, follow the instruction to click cancel, which will do part of the repair, as detailed there.

Thanks for your response JRosenfeld - I followed your instructions and my problem continues. I've decided that I am not going to able to resolve this problem, and perhaps it's time to replace this 6/7 year-old-computer... that should fix this problem! Again, thanks.
