Win XP install problems

Hi I have a dell Dimension 2400 (couple years old now) It has a p4 2.26ghz and 265mb ram. I had to reformatt the machine then when i went to re install win xp home (using the cd that came with it) it will get to where it has 34min left (installing devices) and just freeze there. I have run memtest and it came up with no errors. Any help would be good. Thanx simon

To avoid possible interference from peripherals, it is advisable to disconnect all external peripherals except monitor, mouse, and keyboard from the system before reinstalling XP.

I only had the Monitor, keyboard, mouse connected and it still does the same.
