Win xP SP 2 , SYS PREP serial code

Hey all, I have many new systems to setup I have a ghost image set and I want to change the win xp serial for each new machine.

I have ran sys prep and everytime i do a "reseal" it never asks me for the actual cd key ?!

I was looking on this forum earlier and found that by going to Start|Run, entering oobe/msoobe /a and clicking OK.

It tells me the product is activated, but how do i know that each copy of Xp i deploy from the ghost image is using a unique win xp serial ?

Thanks in advance.

If i understand you right, you made a ghost image off one comp and your installing that image on several comps, if thats the case your using the same serial for all.

G_phunk,

Is this a ghost image of XP Pro or XP Pro Corporate? Also is it just a ghost image of a drive or a drive clone.  Did you create it or was it supplied by Dell or Microsoft?  The 3-in-1 VLK has a utility to view/change the product key for Windows XP, as well as Microsoft Office, Publisher, etc. if that's all you need to do. Note: XP Corporate uses the same key for all installs up to the Corporate license limit.

G_phunk,

Here's how you change your product key to the correct one for each machine.

DO NOT USE THIS UNLESS ALL WORKSTATIONS HAVE LEGAL PRODUCT KEYS FOR THE SAME VERSION OF WINDOWS XP PRO!

Backup your Registry/System State

  • Backup your system state by clicking Start >Run > and typing ntbackup > Click the Advanced Mode button in the Backup Utility Wizard. >Click the Backup tab, then in Click to select the check box for any drive, folder, or file that you want to back up, select the System State.
  • As an alternative, you can backup just the Registry by clicking Start > Run > and type in Regedit  From within the Regedit screen, right click My Computer, choose Export, name the file whatever you choose, and click Save

To change the product ID

  • Click Start > Run > and type in Regedit
  • Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\wpaevents

  • Double-click OOBETimer
  • Remove the 'ca' part from the value. (Changing or deleting any of the binary values will accomplish the same effect)
  • Click OK and close regedit
  • Click Start >Run and type in: "%systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a"
  • Choose the 2nd option (phone activation)
  • Click Change Product Key (at the bottom)
  • Enter your valid Product Key
  • Press Update and close the window
  • Restart your computer

Verify the change

  • After  the workstation restarts, click Start > Run
  • Type in: "%systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a"
  • Make sure the dialog box says 'your copy of windows is already activated'

If you performed the above steps incorrectly, or used an invalid key, your system may not be able to boot. Use the F8 key to boot to the last known good configuration and retry with a valid key.
