Win32k.sys error message
Hello All
After having some pc issues,Kids on the internet downloading the whole world.
I decided to restore Windows XP on my computer. I have misplaced the CD so I had to purchase XP Pro and install it
The install went fine for a while then I got a screen with this
0x0000008E(0xC0000005) 0xBF87BF80 0xF9C008D4 0x00000000 Win32k.sys address BF87BF8D Base at BF800000 Date 3b7de698
I was able to reboot and setup continued , I was able to finish the setup but on the last reboot I got this message memory address line failure 0408E008 Read F7F7F7F7, expecting F7F7F7F7
The computer will not even boot up now, it boots past bios and then gives an F2 option(bios) and F1 to restart
Is this the memory??? Can anyone help me understand what this means and what I must do??
THanks

See the information here. As is implied in this document one thing you can try to troubleshoot the problem is to disconnect all external devices during the installation (all except monitor, mouse, and keyboard). If you have done this, the prime suspect is bad memory.

Hey Denny
I forgot to include the file win32k.sysin the error message so the actual message was
0x0000008E (0xC0000005) 0xBF87BF80 0xF9C008D4 0x00000000
win32k.sys - Address Bf87BF8D BASE
at BF800000
Date 3b7de698
Denny is there anything in Dell machines that would require specific drivers etc to install WindowsXP???

No, nothing special. Windows XP should install on a Dell without a hitch.
