Windows 10 printer compatibility

Hi can anyone please help. My mother in law has downloaded windows 10 then has had problems with her printer a Dell Photo All-in-One Printer 924, v. G6, A00. She's had an error to do with the print spooler so I've tried removing the printer, adding it as well as http://www.technipages.com/fix-for-the-print-spooler-service-is-not-running-error. Is it because windows 10 isn't compatible and we need to basically bin the printer, or is there a work around maybe revert back to windows 8 (if she still has this).? Thanks in advance

That model printer cannot run in windows 10. There are no windows 10 drivers for the old model. Good news is that printers are cheap now. It's the ink that provides the profit.  Buy your mom a new all in one.

I may live right, but I performed a clean, new installation of Windows 10; downloaded and ran cleanup utility R166243; downloaded and ran driver R148157. The printer works fine, except that the software crashes if I preview a scan. The driver is apparently different from the one I had used before; that driver did not open the All-in-One Center, but rather used shortcuts to get straight to the printer or straight to the scanner. I cannot find that driver.

What printer model? You should start a new post with all the info. You must get the drivers and software for scanning from the printer manufacturer. Win 10 only has basic generic printer drivers that might work for basic printing. Visit the printer support site to see if  there are drivers and software for win 10 for scanning on windows 10. If you have an old printer model, you should upgrade to a newer model.

Um, actually, the scanner crops too closely, so I put a strip of black tape across the top of the platen and a black fiducial at the bottom.  You could also use a small black fiducial at each corner and crop them with a photo program if necessary.

Dear Laurels,

I had a similar problem with my 966 AIO printer.  Rock Star Rick is very knowledgeable on this topic and I pieced together information from him and my own trial and error to get my printer to work under Windows 10.  Please see my post on the Windows 10 forum, which will describe what I did and list the links that I found to be the most useful.

I had the same issue on my HP P1108 Printer, I was not able to connect it with Windows 10 computer and I was getting the error the local print spooler service is not running. But most commonly, if the printer driver is not updated properly, then the problem may happen. I followed some methods with the help of this article. First run the Printer troubleshooter and then updated the printer driver. Now I can easily connect with the printer.

First I thought about whether the printer will support in Windows 10, but I read some useful articles online and they all suggested to apply the methods if your printer is not connected with the computer. Anyway, if anyone encounters such kind of issue, then check out the methods. Hope it will help to resolve the issue.

The good news is that pretty much any printer purchased within the last four to five years – or any printer that you've successfully used with Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 – should be compatible with Windows 10.
