Windows 10 upgrade blocked by Dell Data Encryption, even after disabling
I implemented Dell's Data Protection/Encryption on the C:/ drive of my Latitude 5400 series laptop in late-2014. I disabled that same encryption mid-2015, because it detracted too much from overall laptop performance. The Encryption console currently shows my C:/ drive now as "Not provisionsed.
Now, I have attempted (multiple times) to upgrade my OS from Win 7 Pro to Win 10 via the current Microsoft 'free upgrade' offers. However, the upgrade is blocked, every time, by the Dell Data encryption, as per the Win 10 upgrade failure report. Frustrating! Is there any hope for resolving this? Microsoft refers me to back to Dell.

Make sure all files are unencrypted and uninstall Dell Data Protection. It will not work on windows 10. However--check the approved list for upgrading to 10 at the top of this forum and make sure your model is on it. If not-and I didn't see it on the list-you will not be happy with 10 since no drivers are available. Stay with windows 7 until you can replace the laptop. You can install GWX Stopper to prevent any automatic upgrades.

Hi All,
Thank you for posting on the forums! Dell Encryption currently checks to validate if the version of Windows 10 that you are upgrading to is supported by the version of Dell Encryption that is installed. If we find that what you have installed is not supported by the version of Windows 10 that you are upgrading to, a block will be performed against the Windows 10 Feature Update, and we will display the dialog that you are seeing.
Upgrading to a version of Dell Encryption that supports the version of Windows 10 that is being upgraded to will remove this prompt.
More information on the Windows 10 Feature Update process with Dell Encryption can be found here: https://www.dell.com/support/article/sln298382
Windows 10 Feature Update compatibility can be found here: https://www.dell.com/support/article/sln307922
Thanks again, all! Have a great day!
