Windows 16 bit subsystem error

Running windows XP. Received error on startup that said, " Windows/system 32/ autoexec.nt The system file is not suitable for running ms-dos & microsoft windows application. Choose close to terminate this transaction." Problem doesn't appear to affect operation of computer when you close error window......just annoying!

No 16 bit programs are reflected in task manager or in startup file. Tried using "restore" and error message still appeared. Error message doesn't appear on startup when I load a different user desktop.

Any ideas as to how to make this go away would be appreciated

Thanks

hi,

After looking on the internet, I've found the solution to our problem.

and here it is:

you go to your C drive, then to the folder :"windows", in there you find the folder "repairs" , there you copy the file "autoexec.nt" and paste it in your "system32" folder, which is also in your "windows" folder.

It worked for me, so I hope it will work you as well.

cheers,

Myriam

I would be willing to bet its a trojan horse.  But dont worry its not bad.  Go to add and remove programs,  you probably went to a website that automatically installed adware.  This same thing happened to me.  Microsoft, dell, and just about every computer geek will have you trying to edit your registry.  Messing with your registry will work until you reboot then the nightmare start all over.  Just open add and remove programs and look for anything that says ad or anything like that.

It worked for me too. Thanks so much I wish micrsofot would have this simple solution on their website instead of their long drawn out ones that don't even work.
