Windows 2000 really works best with at least 256MB RAM. 128 might be OK, but probably a bit painful. I am asuming you have a Dell PC - if so, you can go to the downloads section for your machine and choose downloads for Windows 2000. That will give a list of drivers specific to Windows 2000.

If your machine is not a Dell, you have to find out what brand it is or find out the makers of the following parts:

1. Motherboard Chipset (most common is Intel and VIA)
2. Video card drivers
3. Sound card drivers
4. Network card drivers

Those are the big 4. Windows 2000 does not need drivers for hard drives and CD/DVD drives.

Be sure to download Windows 2000 Service Pack 4.

This is the way I like to install:
1. Windows 2000 installation
2. Serive Pack 4 install
3. Chipset driver install
4. Video driver install
5. Soundcard driver install
6. Network card install
7. Windows Update for all critical updates and patches
8. Install your software

Hope that helps,

We are running W2000 pro in oud business braches (8000 desktops) with 128K mem.

It proves highly insufficient since our last platform updates (new MCafee 8 version). The rest of the software is just office etc.

We have decided to replace all hardware now.

Conclusion: 128 an W2000 Pro will cause enormeous problems. After logon all memory is in use, and will start swapping directly. Add at 128Mb mem, and it will work fine.
