Windows 2000 Removal and reinstallation

I tried to reformat my hard drive using my Windows 2000 Professional install disk, which I have done once before without incident. Somehow, instead of replacing the first W2K with the second, I somehow ended up with two. I tried to locate and delete the first one by running "cmd" and keying in the commands, but I don't have two versions of my OS listed. So, i think I must have them both on the same partition. The question can I remove the first one without corrupting the second and if not, will simply reinstalling windows overwrite both of the first two?

Short 'n sweet answer: Yes, W2K will offer to delete, create, and format your hard drive prior to installing the O/S. Here's a guide for the installation including screen shots:

http://www.blackviper.com/Articles/OS/Install2kPro/install2kpro1.htm

There's also a guide there for configuring the Services to make your installation into a lean, mean computin' machine :)

p.s.- there's one there for the XP folks, too (but we won't go there since we have the best O/S, right?) lol

Thank you so much! I immediately saw what I did wrong, plus this sigh had a lot of good info (like how to disable the messenger service which i had been told wasn't possible).

Thanks!

Glad you like the site...I knew you would find it useful :) If you follow Black Viper's advice for configuring services, you won't be disappointed with the results. Don't be too aggressive at first; and read what these services actually control. Don't worry either, these service changes are easy to reverse without damage. Enjoy...and pass Black Viper's website addy along to your friends; they will be glad you did.
