If the operating system was installed from the factory, it does not require product key. You may try the product key located on the COA label at the bottom panel of the system.
If issue persists, please share the exact system model.
You HAVE a key that came with your computer (what model are we talking about?).
If that key doesn't work to activate the version of Windows that they installed, then 1) they or you need to install using the correct version that you CAN use your key with, or 2) they need to provide the key that came with the "Windows package" you purchased from them. If you purchased the same version of Windows from them that your license key/sticker is for, then you should ask for a refund of the software and either ask them to install Windows that you can activate using your own key, or do the install yourself.
Hi my problem is not fix but i assume this is because i have got a new windows 7 hp64 bit. about 8 months ago my computer started acting weird and would not let my login i toke it to a pc repair shop and they said i need a new copy of windows. so i bought it and a few days later i got it back.
sorry for not puting this info in the post at first i had forgot about it.
If your PC shipped with Windows 7 on it, it would not be necessary to repurchase any Windows "package".
In Canada, you might be able to call Dell to request a replacement installation DVD of Windows.
Otherwise, you could have installed Windows 7 from a "retail" DVD you can download from Microsoft's online partner, Digital River, then activate over the phone using your existing Product Key.
Try phone activation, if it doesn't work, call the shop to have them make it right. You could do this yourself, but you might as well get what you paid for.
Then you will need to try to activate over the phone with Microsoft using the Product Key on your license sticker. If it does not activate, then you need to call the "shop" to make it right (or do it yourself - we can help). What exactly did you "buy" from them? Just service or actual Windows software?
when they installed the windows on my computer they never gave me the box that the disk was in or even the disk so im hoping they have the key noted somewere if not they have the info in there system so they know i bought the windows
Have you tried phone activation? That may still work. Less than 5 minutes, and completely automated.
Right-click [My] Computer, Properties, go down and click on Change Product Key, type in your Product Key and try to activate. If it doesn't activate, then click on Activate over the phone to get started.
