WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM 32-BIT & 64-BIT RE-INSTALL HELP
Inspiron 15R 5520 Win 7 Home Premium 32 & 64-bit
Win 7 HP 64-bit installed
Win 7 has been extremely feisty to install Drivers from the Dell Site. I believe the problem exists with the 64-bit installed without the 32-bit. I do have a 32-bit Win 7 disk, but I don't know how to install it without losing the 64-bit already on there.
PLEASE... can someone assist with this 32-bit install with 64-bit already there?
Thank you in advance! This has been a mega-problem for sometime just getting the Laptop to the Internet.

Hi ICURPNT2,
If you want to move from 64-bit a version of Windows to a 32-bit version of Windows 7 or vice versa, you'll need to back up your files and choose the Custom option during Windows 7 installation. Then, you'll need to restore your files and reinstall your programs.

Install the 64 Bit only you will lose system performance with the 32 Bit version (32 Bit will not address all 6 GB of RAM).
Get the system drivers from here, the Dell FTP website as drivers and downloads doesn't work well:
http://ftp.dell.com/published/Pages/inspiron-17r-se-7720.html
See my notes here regarding driver installation order:
http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/downloading-drivers-checking-hardware-ids-and-downloading-and-installing-dell-system-drivers-in-the-correct-order/driver-installation/
For variants identify using the hardware IDs:

I agree with Philip Yip.
32-bit Windows can usually utilize 3 GB or at most 4 GB of RAM.
Additionally, 64-bit applications will not work. Whereas with 64-bit Windows, 32-bit applications also work. The exception here is the drivers. Drivers mus be of the same architecture as the operating system as they act as the link between the operating system (Windows) and the hardware.
You can try installing the drivers from the link provided by Philip Yip.
Also, kindly note that there will not be a need for you to purchase a separate license for 32-bit as the same product key is compatible for 32-bit as well as 64-bit Windows installations.
