Windows 7 upgrade and Embassy Dell Security Manager causing Windows "Critical Error"
If I install the Dell Security Manager, Windows 7 encounters a critical error immediately after login and forcesa restart one minute later (repeat until safe mode boot). Anyone know a fix?
The details: I upgraded my Latitude E6400 using the Dell-provided Windows 7 upgrade disks from Vista SP1. At the end of the process, the Dell upgrade assistant downloaded and re-installed the Dell Control Point software, including the Dell Security Manager (Embassy by Wave). That appears to be where the problems began. When the system booted, the security manager insisted I turn on TPM before it would install, so I did. Then it told me TPM was still not turned on. After re-installing it, I began getting Windows Critical errors immediately after booting, with the system re-starting itself after the Windows warning of 1 minute. The process then repeats. I was only able to repair this by going to a restore point before the Security Center install (uninstalling Dell Security Center in Safe Mode reported success in uninstalling, but the program doesn't disappear on restart-- it is still there, although Programs control panel reports it as not being there, and "do I want to remove it from the Programs list?")
Windows 7 appears to be running 100% fine until I try to install Dell security manager; then the critical errors begin. Bottom line is I'm not desperate since I have a working machine, but I've got 6 coworkers with the same machine who I want to upgrade, but won't until I understand this issue better.
