Windows 8. Apps no longer open.
My applications no longer open on my 6 month old alienware 17 running windows 8. They will show up on the toolbar at the bottom of the screen, but will not show up on the desktop. System recovery will not work either. Geeksquad could not figure this issue out. No viruses so I have no clue what to do. Applications will no longer load from the playstore either.

Are these just Metro Apps or is this every program installed on the PC?

These are all the preloaded apps. The calculator won't even open up. It shows up at the bottom of the screen, but when I try to get it to show on the desktop, it just flickers once and nothing happens.

Other similar threads point to McAfee as the culprit. Did you have it uninstall it from the factory settings or is it still there?

Mcafee is not installed. I purchased it with no anti-virus knowing I was going to use a different program. This all began approximately when I did a Microsoft update. Problem is it effected system restore also. That stopped working the same time apps quit opening so I can't roll the system back.
