Dell diagnostics is showing hdd failure. But the disk is working fine as an external disk with my another laptop. I can access all my data. >Then I tried to use bootable usb. > From there when I tried REFRESH YOUR PC option it reverted “The drive where the windows is installed is locked” >Then I tried RESET YOU PC option it reverted “ Unable to reset you PC. As the partion drive is missing” > From Dos prompt it tried following function C:\ bootrec /rebuildbcd Response “Total identified Windows installations:1 [1] c:\windows Add installation to boot list : Yes(y) /No (n) /All(A) : Now no mater what I enter it says “ The requested system drive cannot be found” >Bootrec / fixboot and /fixmbr commands are working fine. > When I use dispart i found that there is a volume /partition 6 has the file system raw Please HELP..

Your drive is DOA and needs to be replaced. You will need to obtain a Win 8 installation disk from Dell. You will also need to recover your data using a second computer or an external HDD adaptor.

Hi Pratsha,

The Hard drive is faulty. As you are able to see the hard drive on the diskpart screen you can try following steps. Please follow the steps mentioned below and then try reinstalling the operating system.

Boot into your Windows 7 or 8 install DVD

Select repair your computer, it will fail and then select the command prompt after a few windows.

Type into command prompt (NO QUOTES)

"diskpart" (enter)
"list disk" (enter)

find your HDD (in my case disk 0)

"select disk 0" (enter)
"clean" (enter)
"exit" (enter)

Note: Please backup all data from the system to perform the above steps.

Please let me know if this helps.
