What is the Windows 8 Upgrade Offer?
Microsoft is providing an upgrade program available to customers who want to purchase their new PC now with Windows 7 and upgrade to Windows 8 when it’s available.
Am I eligible for a Windows® 8 upgrade?
To be eligible for an upgrade to Windows 8, you must meet these guidelines:
Purchase a qualifying Dell™ system between June 2, 2012 and January 31, 2013.
For a system to be considered qualified, it must have one of the following four operating systems installed:  Windows® 7 Home Basic.
Windows® 7 Home Premium, Windows® 7 Professional, or Windows® 7 Ultimate.
NOTE:  Offer must be redeemed prior to February 28, 2013.  Certain features of Windows 8 may not be available when an existing Windows® 7 system is upgraded.  Driver updates may also be required.i
Is there a limit to the number of systems I can purchase that are eligible for an upgrade?
Yes.  Only 5 upgrade offers per customer are allowed under the program.
What if I have a business and need more than 5 upgrade offers?
Business customers with more than 5 PCs are encouraged to pursue Volume Licensing with Software Assurance. If you already have a Volume Licensing agreement, contact your Microsoft specialist on how to add Software Assurance to your system order. Adding Software Assurance within 90 days of your system purchase will allow you to upgrade to Windows 8 when it launches.
Will there be a charge for the Windows 8 upgrade program?
Yes. There will be a charge for the upgrade offer (electronic download).
How do I get my Windows 8 upgrade?  
Step 1:  Purchase a qualifying Dell PC with eligible Windows® 7 operating system.
Step 2:  Visit the Microsoft Windows 8 Upgrade offer site at http://www.windowsupgradeoffer.com/ and register to receive an upgrade.
Step 3:  Redeem your offer through the Microsoft site http://www.windowsupgradeoffer.com/ when Windows 8 is available.  Offer must be redeemed prior to February 28, 2013.
Can I upgrade systems I already have at home?
Only systems purchased between June 2, 2012 and January 31, 2013 are eligible for this upgrade offer.  However, you may purchase Microsoft Windows 8 upgrade separately for other systems. 
My system is not eligible for the Windows 8 Upgrade Offer.  How can I upgrade my system to Windows 8?  Can I purchase a Windows 8 upgrade?
You may purchase a copy of Windows 8 from the Dell Electronics, Software and Accessories store when Windows 8 becomes available.  You
may purchase copies from retail stores at that time as well.   
Should I back up my files and programs before installing my upgrade?
Yes.  When upgrading your system, you should make backup copies of all files currently on your hard drive before installing Windows 8.
Can I change the version/language of the Dell Windows 7 Upgrade kit?
All customers purchasing the Windows 8 upgrade offer will receive Windows 8 Pro. The language you receive will be the same as the language
you purchased with your Windows® 7 PC.
How long will I have to wait for the Windows 8 upgrade?
Details on how to receive your upgrade offer will be available on the Microsoft website at www.windowsupgradeoffer.com.  
Note: you will need to register for the upgrade and meet all eligibility criteria to take advantage of the upgrade offer.  Please visit the Microsoft site for more information.

Upgrade Cost- USD $14.99; Regional Equivalents not available yet; (US Only. Regional Specifics  may vary)
Support Information- The purchase of the upgrade comes with a 90 day No Charge from Mircrosoft. The 90 day period begins when Windows 8 Instalation
and Activation completes.
NOTE: Telecom or other access may apply.

  • Dell will create awareness and publicity among the customers about this
    upgrade program.
  • Microsoft will provide support for all issues related to Windows 8 Upgrade.
  • Customers must finish running the Windows updates in their computer before
    upgrading to Windows 8.
  • It is recommded that customers back up their data before upgrading to
    Windows 8.

Windows 8 System Requirements
Microsoft claims Windows 8 is the first version of Windows to require less resources that its predecessor Windows 7

  • Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster (Intel or ARM).
  • RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit or 2 GB (64-bit).
  • Hard drive space: 16 GB (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit).
  • Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device or higher.
  • To use touch, you need a tablet or monitor that supports multitouch.
  • To access Windows Store and to download and run apps, you need an active Internet connecti and a screen resolution of at least 1024 x 768.
  • To snap apps in the interface, you need a screen resolution of at least 1366 x 768.

Most interesting is you must have a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 to run apps from the Windows Store. Those of you holding out at 800 x 600, it is time to buy a new monitor.
