Windows 98 Display and Sound failure
Just recently, i have booted my Dell OptiPlex GX100, and My Display options have been lowered to 16 colors, and my sound been currently disabled due to some mmsystem.dll file being missing at bootup, but i checked the config and the file is still good. I tried to go to Control Panel and Display to change the slider to 256 colors, and it wouldn't let me. Everytime Windows boots up on the welcome screen, The Rundll Error message comes up, and even when i want the system to run on normal mode, the computer says that i don't have enough memory to run those programs....is my operating system on a meltdown?
Please give help, any would be appreciated
Donald

Sounds like a recent installation or other issue has changed some of your system files. The first thing to do is run System File Checker and see if Windows can nail down which files are causing the problems:

If this does not work, it might be time to reinstall.

Okay thanks, i got my sound back from checking the system files, and it seemed that the mmsystem.dll file was missing from its bootup sector of the system.ini file. Um i however do realized that my video adapter is bad and i needed to replace it, so the Dell is fine now, there wasn't actually wrong with 98 really..just some files were depleted from the system folder somehow. I know that i had some spyware that were hidden in my hard disk that was making the error messages come up frequently, so i got rid of those, but i thank Dell's support team for helping my old computer still running.
