"Windows cant find.......doc file" error messages

When I click on a Word .doc file in any folder, I get a pop up with a red circle with an X in it stating that "Windows can't find ..." that file. The same happens when I click on any other file created by Microsoft Office.  I then get a box telling me:  "Preparing to install Microsoft Office 2000" , even though this program package is installed on my PC .The Word program frame appears.  When I then click on that same .doc file [or other Office file] , it will open inside that frame.

I have tried unistalling and reinstalling Microsoft Office 2000. I have also tried a System Restore. The problem persists

Is this due to a probelm in  the Windows Operating System?

I use Windows ME.

I have the CD disc for Reinstallation of Windows ME .  I'm not sure exactly how or if to use this merely to correct this malfunction.

But if there are some other methods possible to resolve this, I would appreciate it.

elirui,

Thanks for using the Dell Community Forum.

If this is only happening in Word, I would not think it's an operating system error.  I would recommend posting this in the Office board for better assistance.

Try deleting the file called normal.dot and reboot. If that doesn't fix it, right-click on any doc (Word) file and select "Open with" and browse ( if Word is not showing) to Microsoft Word.
