Search the web for this error. You will find a lot. One post indicated the problem was Defender not being turned on in Services. Go to services, select Windows Defender and start the service, and set the program to load automatically.
If you want to stop Defender from running, it can't be uninstalled. Run the program and go to options and set it not to run.
I have Vista and had the same error you have. I found a fix today though and it worked for me. It's easy enough to do if you want to try and easy to change back if it doesn't. I found this on the Microsoft sight by the guy's name listed at the top of this I'm passing on.

I've also seen this issue these days..
I've a solution for this..But I am not sure whetehr this is a permanent one..
Open the 'services' window (Start >> Run >> services.msc)
Navigate to Windows defender and double click it then start the service..
Make sure that the 'start up typel is set to 'automatic'..
This can resolve the issue..
Just try it and let me know whether it's working"
After I did this I was able to enable Windows Defender and restarted several times and it still works with McAfee. I was amazed.

Welcome to the forums :emotion-55:
If you want to continue using the program, try downloading/reinstalling Windows Defender / Windows Defender v1.1.1593?

Defender v 1.1.1539 is for XP, NOT Vista.
