Windows error - can't load profile

I get a error when I log on to Windows:
Windows cannot load the user's profile but has logged you on with the default profile for the system.

DETAIL - The system has attempted to load or restore a file into the registry, but the specified file is not in a registry file format.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http: //go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
(the link was no help)

I couldn't find this exact error in any knowledge database.  I would appreciate any help.

If Denny's links don't solve the problem, this what I did and it worked. Use Windows Explorer and navigate down the tree to:

C:\Documents and Settings\ your name\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows

Look for UsrClass.dat and UsrClass.dat.log and rename them both (ie.) _UsrClass.dat and _UsrClass.dat.log. Then reboot and Windows will recreate both files and open normaly.
