Windows Explorer File Manager View Settings

I am having trouble getting my Windows Explorer File Manager (Win 98 SE) to keep the view settings that I make. I set one folder manually to Details and then Right Click and select Arrange Alphabetically and then I use the Folder Options, View, Like Current Folder button to set all of my other folders. When I close and then re-open Windows Explorer the folders and files are no longer in alphabetical order including the one that I had just set manually. Also when I save a file, the file list that shows up in the pop-up window is not in alphabetical order. This is really annoying as I have to search in the small window for the folder I want.

I have also played with the Advanced Settings by clicking in the box for "Remember each folder's view setting" but this does not keep the settings I select either.

I have used this computer for several years and this problem just recently surfaced.
Thanks

Download this registry file - http://www.winxpnews.com/misc/folderfix.reg

and run it.  The problem occurs because the registry has a key that sets the maximum number of folders views that are remebered to 400.  When you reach more than 400 saved views, the saved views no longer work.  The registry fix increases the number to 8000.

Steve,
I got an error message when I tried to run your registry fix something like "Cannot import Folderfix.reg. The specified file is not a registry script. You can import only registry files." Are you sure this is supposed to work for Win 98SE?

Sorry,

Read the following thread and the final solution given by the last message in the thread:

This worked for me in Win 98SE
To keep you from going to the other link and to add more detail to
the fix I put it all here.

Open Windows Explorer
On the Menu Bar select
  View
     Folder Options
Click on View Tab
Scroll down to "Remember each folder's view Settings" and uncheck the box.

Create a text file with the following three lines, name it afile.reg, and save
it to your desktop:

REGEDIT4
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoSaveSettings"=hex:00,00,00,00

Close all programs

Go to your desktop and double-click afile.reg
Follow the prompts

Open Windows Explorer and set up a folder the way you want it displayed,
e.g. Details, alphabetcally by name, etc.

Close Windows Explorer and then reopen it. All folders and files should now display
the way your master was set up.

Thanks Steve
